Hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) is a nonionic cellulose ether. It is easily dispersed and dissolved in water, producing a high viscosity solution. HEC is used as a viscosity and rheology modifier, protective colloid, water retention agent, stabilizer and suspending agent, especially in those applications where a nonionic material is required. The product has a higher and more uniform degree of substitution, which improves enzyme resistance.
